Tuesday night, February 7th will be the first meeting of February. We will plan the monthly outing for Saturday, February 18th at Lake Trafford.
The dates are delicately chosen to prevent a fishing conflict with Valentines day. We will cover the logistics of how to get to the lake and what fishing is there.
Bring your boat, jon boat, kayak, paddle board, feet, or other form of fishing. We will have a BBQ with hamburgers, etc at 1:00 pm after fishing. I will bring the Smokey Joe, and some burgers. You bring some sides, deserts, etc and we will have a picnic after the fishing.
Lake Trafford is the largest freshwater lake south of Lake Okeechobee with an area of 1,600 acres. Located near the town of Immokalee, the lake serves as the headwaters of the Corkscrew Swamp-Imperial River, Cocohatchee River, and Camp Keais Strand-Panther Refuge. Lake Trafford has historically been an important boating, fishing, and recreational resource.
Between 2006 and 2010 the South Florida Water Management District operated with the Lake Trafford Restoration Project at a cost in excess of $21 million dollars. The goal of lake restoration was to restore native plant and fish communities and improve overall lake health.
Fish species present in the lake include largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish, and large brown bullheads. Access to Lake Trafford is mainly by boat. There is a small county park located on the lake that provides some bank access along with a nice public fishing pier. Lake Trafford Marina and the park both have public boat ramps. Services available from the marina include boat rentals, guide service, airboat tours, and bait and tackle.
