Shark Depredation

SDA: Tuesday Evening, 7/09 – 7:30 pm – Chicken and Chat

Dr Phil said in our chat that he is working on a system to reduce shark depredation.

We will discuss Tuesday evening to see what we can get involved with.

Last time we got rained out with the casting lessons so we will try again on Tuesday evening.

We also need an outing location for Saturday, 7/13.

Fresh water (because of all the rain) or Saltwater (flats)?

David is making special jerk chicken grilled with coleslaw. Someone bring desert and some soul beans.

See you then.

Fly Cast Contest and Lesson

Meeting Tuesday, tomorrow evening, June 25th.

We are doing a fly casting contest/learning session. It’s the longest daylight of the year.

I have a 6 wt, 8 wt, and 12 wt so you can try each one and compare the feel. Bring your own gear for the contest.

There is a jack crevalle target. Take 3 shots and accumulate how close they are to the target. Frank has agreed to teach and run the contest.

Multiple blind casts will spook the target.

I will bring a Lefty video so we can watch that with dinner.

Inside after dinner we can share Intel on where and how fishing conditions are doing.

Burgers, potato salad, and beans for dinner, $10.

Clouser Minnow tying session

We are having a group tying session Tuesday evening, June 11, at 7:30 pm.

We are building a classic Clouser Minnow

Dr. Phil will be the instructor.

No better way to learn tying Clouser’s Deep Minnow than from John Clouser himself:

Bring what you have and others will share.

Bring your vice if you have one and/or your hair and other materials.

There will be Ropa Vieja with rice and slaw for dinner.

Come enjoy the fellowship.

Winter Bass or SeaTrout?

Tuesday evening we will have the first meeting of the year (01/09/2024) at the Club House.

Ernie Diaz a new member will talk with us about Bass fishing at Sawgrass Preserve.

The Photo speaks to his previous luck.

We are scheduled to have a club outing on Saturday, 01/13. I was talking about Big O before, but maybe we consider Sawgrass.

Another factor may be the cold weather. Maybe Trout of Mackerel would be better target for Saturday.

January is the month that membership fees are due to keep the place going. Please either bring a check ($250) or I will send a PayPal link.

I will bring some hamburgers and smokey Joe, so help out with some sides and/or desert.

Again, Happy New Year. See you then.

Skip Cast Meeting: How To Do It

Tuesday, October 10 we will meet at the clubhouse.

Want to have a discussion about skip casting.

Someone among us (I won’t tell on Bert) is an expert at that. Maybe he can help us.

I will have a couple of videos where they explain the technique but our unnamed member may also shed light on the issue.

David will bring Pizza for dinner. Bring your $10 to help the cost.

Also we will have our Stone Crab fishing tournament on Saturday, October 21, at Everglades City.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Thanks to BassMaster for the photo

Learning to skip to it

Ladyfish?

Tuesday, 9/12, 7:30 pm

Fernando’s Piccadillo with rice.

How many times do for catch and release ladyfish?

Maybe go home without anything to eat?

How about Catch, Clean, and Cook Ladyfish?

Also lets share the latest fishing experiences.

Details to follow Tuesday evening.

See you there.

SDA: Permit and Homemade Chili Dogs 1/24/2023 7:30 pm

SDA Jan 24 7:30 pm at the clubhouse.

Topic for the night is 15 Minutes Of A Pack Of Permit.

This is a presentation by Key West Kayak Fishing and is his adventure being in a large pack of Permit on his Kayak. AllAboutTheBait.com

We are going to use his YouTube experience to have an introduction to being with Permit.

Can you see them? Tails and Dorsal fins? Can you approach them? Can you cast to them without spooking them? Can you get them to eat an artificial?

Great learning experience and discussion. You won’t want to miss this evening.

David is making homemade chili and hot dogs. Someone needs to bring cole slaw and flan or some desert.

We will talk about the fishing, and what to expect in the next month.

On March 14, Dr. Jennifer Rehage from FIU will give us a presentation on some of her current research.
